- an approach to language that considers language as a SOCIAL SEMIOTIC SYSTEM (paradigmatic vs syntagmatic).
- Language - EXCHANGES, language functions
- Language - interaction situational & cultural context.
- Language Functions - Ideational, Interpersonal, Textual.
- System - essential properties: terms mutually exclusive, system is finite, meanings connected to each other.
- DISCOURSE: Text (phonemes, morphemes; lexis, grammar, linkers, rhetorical questions, modal verbs...), Register (Social Context, Cultural, Context), Genre.
BASIC PRINCIPLES of SFL.
Once again I found myself working with many interesting tools I have never handled before. Another challenge to accomplish this mission…
To be honest it was quite difficult for me to use the charts and canvas and upload them to the blog appropriately. Although, at the beginning, I felt frustrated, and I had the feeling that I would not be able to cope with this VIRTUAL ERA, I think, little by little, I am getting used to it.
As regards the subject matter, SFL is an important theory which includes many item to take into consideration during the teaching – learning process. As we have learned, all languages involve three metafunctions. Ideational, refering to experience of our reality and logical connections; interpersonal that enacts social relations; and a third one, textual, which joins together the previous two functions to create texs. Even though these metafunctions exist simoultanously, they do not operate at the same level.

Context of situation and context of culture are fundamental topics to dive into. They include social purposes, beliefs, social practices, social relations and values together with the concepts of field, tenor and mode.
Why is it worthwhile mentioning all these ideas? Because Language is natural and cultural, individual and social. Thus, there is always “something else” behind it. There are many ideas or intentions hidden in our expressions, that we must consider in order to communicate properly.

Your presentation, Gform and interactive board are really good! Although the way the slides change is quite confusing, since you press ''left'' and it slides ''right''. It is well organized and summarized in a couple pages, I like it! I have to agree with you, working with all these tools was quite challenging.
